Professor Ahmed Bawa of the University of Johannesburg visited Kyoto University (February 28, 2023)
On February 28, 2023, Professor Ahmed Bawa of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, visited the Center for African Area Studies at Kyoto University.
Professor Bawa is one of South Africa’s leading theoretical physicists and has served as the president of the Universities South Africa (USAf), the country’s university organization. IAfP Project representative Motoki Takahashi, Director of the Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University, Associate Professor Hidenori Harada, Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS), Specially Appointed Lecturer Fumitaka Wakamatsu, of ASAFAS , and IAfP Research Fellows Dr. Aihara and Dr. Jung welcomed him. During the meeting between them, representatives from Kyoto University and the University of Johannesburg discussed a wide range of topics, ranging from the expansion of academic cooperation in research and student exchanges between the two universities, to building a platform to promote collaboration between universities of the two nations in general. Specific methods for cooperation between Japanese and South African universities were also discussed.
