【Call for Participants】Feb 19 (Wed) Symposium “Japan and Africa”
Hiroshima University (HU) has been implementing the Triangular Study Abroad Program for Reciprocal Partnership with North and Sub-Saharan Africa since AY2020 in order to develop international human resources who will work to overcome the challenges that the world including Africa is facing.
We at HU are pleased to announce that a symposium titled “Japan and Africa” will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Participants from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and partner universities in Africa will talk about cooperation and initiatives in various fields.
In addition, students who have studied in Africa and exchange students from Africa will share their experiences.
Even if you have never been to Africa, please join us for lively discussion and exchange of ideas for the future. We look forward to your participation!

09:35- 10:05: Keynote Speech: “(TBC) Towards Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD)-9” by Mr. NISHINO Shuichi, Director, First Africa Division, African Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs(TBD)
10:05-10:35: “(TBC) JICA’s Cooperation with Africa” by Mr. UENO Shuhei, Deputy Director General (for Planning and TICAD Process), Africa Department, JICA
10:35-12:35: Presentations by professors of 6 partner universities in Africa
12:35-14:00: Lunch Break
14:00-15:00: Presentations by students who have studied in Africa and students from Africa
15:00-15:55: Panel Discussion “Collaboration for the Future”: Hiroshima University faculty and faculty from partner universities in Africa
15:55-16:00: Closing Remarks
