“Japan-Africa Student Exchange Portal Site” is a portal created to promote student exchange between Japan and Africa. This site has a database of universities accepting international students from Japan to African universities and universities in Japan accepting international students from Africa. It was designed to be searchable according to conditions.

This site was jointly built by Kyoto University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies with the support of the “The Inter University Exchange Project.” The Project for Strengthening the global expansion of universities aims to develop global human resources, which can play an active role internationally and strengthen the global expansion of university education. This project was launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2011 with the aim of supporting efforts of international educational collaboration with universities in target countries and regions.

Kyoto University, together with the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, was selected for this project, and since 2020, have been implementing the “Innovative Africa: Educational Networking Programs for Human Resource Development in Africa’s SDGs.” This program aims to develop student exchanges with major African universities and to develop human resources that can serve as a bridge between Japan and Africa. In addition, it will promote information sharing between universities in Japan and Africa and build a platform where students and faculty members can obtain useful information for studying abroad in both regions and building careers through it.

This site has compiled a database of the current status of exchanges between Japanese and African universities, majors, university-specific scholarships, and information on faculty members conducting related research in Japan and Africa. We would appreciate it if you could use this site as the first point of contact for students who wish to study abroad from Japan to a university in Africa or from Africa to a university in Japan.
